Use these tips to prepare yourself for your workout.
It is advisable not to eat 2 hours before class...if you do eat, have a light meal (i.e. soup, yogurt)
Pilates breathing (inhalation) is done through your nose; all exhalation is through the mouth with a "shushing" sound. Imagine squeezing the water from a sponge!
During a Pilates class, the core muscles are identified and used to help you perform the different movements. If it hurts or doesn't feel right, don't do it! Stop the movement and ask your instructor for a modification after the class.
Please leave your shoes in the outside waiting area before entering the studio. Shoes are very cumbersome and inhibit the flow of the pilates movements. Socks are definitely "OK" to keep your feet warm.
Close your eyes...visualize! If you can see it, you can do it!
A small pillow or rolled up towel is recommended during the first few sessions to lessen neck strain.
Pilates is non-competitive. Remember, you are not in competition with anyone else in the class or even yourself!
Ask questions...there is no such thing as a silly question!
Pilates is about quality, not quantity.
Relax, enjoy and most of all have fun!
