Use these tips to prepare yourself for your workout.

Yoga Tips

It is advisable not to eat 2 hours before class...if you do eat, have a light meal (i.e. soup, yogurt)

All breathing (inhaling and exhaling) is done through your nose...if for any reason this is difficult for you, breathe as you would normally. Always try to exhale 1 or 2 breaths longer then you inhale.

If it hurts or doesn't feel right, don't do it! A slight stretch is good, pain is not! If an asana(posture) is uncomfortable for you, stop immediately and see your instructor after class. Asanas can be modified to your needs.

Please leave your shoes in the outside waiting area before entering the studio. Yoga is performed in your bare feet. The reason for this is two-fold:

  • It will keep you from slipping during the postures.
  • Doing yoga in your bare feet puts you in closer contact with the earth's energy. If you are uncomfortable being barefoot, leave your socks on.

Close your eyes...visualize! Imagine yourself doing the posture and feel the energy that it brings.

Some people find it more comfortable to sit on a small pillow or rolled up towel or blanket when we are doing seated postures. Try it and see.

During the relaxation portion of the class (the last 15 minutes) your body will begin to cool down rapidly. You may want to have a blanket nearby to make you more comfortable. The body and mind will relax more deeply when they are warm.

Yoga is non-competitive. Remember, you are not in competition with anyone else in the class or even yourself! Just do what feels right at the moment. Yoga is all about being in the present.

Ask questions...there is no such thing as a silly question!

Relax and Enjoy...this is your time!
